An English-language chronological list of all the selected films is included as an appendix at the end of the booklet. ＊　＊　＊ Introduction At Hiroshima Animation Season 2026, we have organized a special feature titled "120 Years of Short Animation (1906-2026)" to celebrate the rich history built by short animation. This commemorates the 120th anniversary of "Humorous Phases of Funny Faces" (1906), a work often considered one of the origins of animation. This special booklet compiles the results of a survey conducted among visiting artists and award winners of Hiroshima Animation Season, primarily those from the Pan-Pacific and Asian regions that the festival focuses on, based on the following theme. Invitation Please tell us your "Personal Best 12" short animations from the 120-year history that you "simply love and want everyone to see!" Setting aside expertise, we want you to share your passion. While putting historical legitimacy and critical acclaim to one side, it would be wonderful if the eras and regions were colorfully scattered in a way that reflects your unique list. This project does not aim to create an "authoritative list," but rather a "passionate archive" of those who love animation. Soon afterward, Rejected was nominated for an Academy Award and exploded in popularity on video-sharing sites, particularly YouTube, earning him a cult following. He remains committed to a highly individual approach to filmmaking, personally handling the drawing and photography of his films, sometimes producing well over ten thousand drawings for a single work. After completing It’s Such a Beautiful Day in 2012, the third installment in a trilogy following Everything Will Be OK and I Am So Proud of You, Hertzfeldt made a guest contribution to the popular television series The Simpsons, creating one of its signature “couch gags,” which attracted considerable attention. With World of Tomorrow, he ventured into digital animation for the first time, continuing to explore new creative territory. The film won the Grand Jury Prize for Short Film at the Sundance Film Festival. (Hertzfeldt had previously won the same prize for Everything Will Be OK, making him the first filmmaker in Sundance history to receive the award twice.) World of Tomorrow was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
